Kudos go to innovative case study-type projects designed to automate, optimize, streamline and improve the supply chain
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — August 10th, 2023 — Supply & Demand Chain Executive, the only publication covering the entire global supply chain, named Kenco as one of the winners of this year’s Top Supply Chain Projects award, which profiles innovative case study-type projects designed to automate, optimize, streamline and improve the supply chain.
Kenco is a leading third-party logistics (3PL) provider that won for its work implementing their revolutionary Slot DC solution for a leading puzzle company that needed to optimize its forward picking area.
Prior to implementation, they lacked insights into their operations and intelligent forecasting. The company could not identify which SKUs should be assigned to forward picking, along with frequent changes in SKU velocity that were addressed.
Kenco utilized its game-changing Slot DC solution and worked closely with the leading puzzle company’s operations and engineering teams to identify forward picking areas, generate a list of SKUs to move in and out of forward picking; and calculate a cost/benefit analysis for the suggested changes. This analysis could be run repeatedly, readdressing changes in velocity and seasonality.
“Our collaborative efforts empowered the puzzle company to optimize its forward picking area, resulting in $288,000 in annual savings,” said Satish Vadlamani, Director of Data Science and Business Intelligence at Kenco. “Today, the company’s operations team continues to use Slot DC regularly to ensure their case pick area is always optimized and uses the cost/benefit analysis to prioritize SKU moves.”
Slot DC uses machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) to predict in advance which product needs to be slotted or rezoned while considering hard-to-see patterns, profile changes and seasonality. It is 100% automated and requires little, if any, manual manipulation.
“From demand planning and forecasting to implementing the ultimate in warehouse automation, the past 12 months have seen companies within the supply chain and logistics space upgrade, enhance, adopt and adapt to achieve greater efficiency along the chain,” said Marina Mayer, Editor-in-Chief of Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Food Logistics. “That’s why it’s important today’s supply chains run on collaboration.”
